What is Ready Steady Go?
Ready Steady Go! is a programme to help you and your child live a healthier lifestyle. It can help by:
- increasing your family's knowledge of nutrition and healthy eating
- helping to increase the amount of activity that your family do
- helping you and your family to achieve and maintain a healthy weight
By learning to lead a healthier lifestyle, you can help to reduce the chances of having various long-term conditions in the future.
Who can attend?
Ready Steady Go! is for children aged 4-12. We are a family programme, so parents must attend and we welcome siblings to join us as well.
We believe that everyone could benefit from leading a healthier lifestyle, however, our programme is only for children who are above the healthy weight. If you are unsure what this means, your GP or School Nurse will be able to help.
In addition to this, to be eligible for Ready Steady Go! children must either:
- live in Lambeth
- attend a school in Lambeth
- be registered with a GP in Lambeth
Alternatively, you can also contact us for more information. If you are concerned about your child’s weight, then we will be able to offer help and advice.
How much does it cost?
The programme is absolutely FREE!
When and where are sessions held?
We mainly run our courses in primary schools and community centres across Lambeth. We offer a variety of locations so families can choose a programme that is close to where they live or where their children go to school.
The next phase of the Ready Steady Go! programme will start in September 2026 at two venues, Brixton and West Norwood. Please keep checking this and the other Ready Steady Go! web pages for details on registration.

How long does RSG run for?
We understand how busy family life can be. Our 12-week programme requires you and your child to attend just once a week for 12 weeks (one school term).
What Happens in an RSG Session?
Each session lasts for 90 minutes and includes healthy eating workshops with fun physical activity for parents/carers and children. We cover a range of nutritional topics including:
- a balanced diet
- five-a-day
- food labelling
- portion sizes
- ultra processed foods which are often high in calories, saturated fat, salt and sugar
- guided supermarket tour
We even take you on a tour of a supermarket and look at products that you would buy in your weekly shop, to see how you could make it healthier and more affordable. Our aim is to get you and your family living happier, healthier lives for longer.
How Can I Book a Place?
You can apply to join the programme by using the Joining the programme form.
